let's make {screen savers}

No, not that kind of screen saver! It's summer, which means many of us are loving the warming temps and the chance to let the house breathe a bit. But, while nature is nice, I, for one, am not about to invite a bunch of 6-legged (or eight-legged) critters in to play. Thank goodness for screens. In this quick and simple diy, we'll make "screen savers"--bright little ornaments that will keep you, your guests, your children, or your pets from trying to walk through the screen door without opening it first!

let's make {screen savers}

These instructions are for three ornaments, but you can scale this up to make as many as you need.

Supplies:
6 super heavy duty magnets (not those week black ones)
6 buttons
a strong adhesive, such as superglue or E6000

First, separate the magnets into pairs. Keep the two together--this will be much easier to work with AND it will ensure that your magnets are oriented the correct way.

Place a small amount of glue on the back side of one of your magnets (between the button holes).

Place one magnet pair on top of the wet adhesive and press down.

Now apply adhesive to the back side of another button.

Flip that button over (adhesive side down) and press it onto the top of the magnet pair.

You'll end up with a double-decker magnet sandwich. :) (Oh, and you're done!)

Just repeat with the remaining buttons and magnets to complete your set. (As you can see, I've used smaller buttons for one side and larger, patterned buttons for the other. Be as creative as you want. Also, if you choose some types of metallic buttons, a second magnet may be unnecessary.)

To use, just sandwich the screen between two magnets. Since you used the super strong magnets, trust me, these will not fall off willy-nilly. But if you have young children or pets who tend to chew/gnaw on things, you might want to place these at adult eye-level.

These super-strong magnets are also great for the fridge--in my experience, they'll easily hold up a couple of takeaway menus.
have a lovely day, Amy
